Anna Gunndís Guðmundsdóttir graduated with B.F.A in acting from Iceland University of the Arts in 2010. After graduation she worked with SIGNA, an artistic collective based in Copenhagen known for their performance installations, where Anna worked on the show Die Hundsprozesse in collaboration with Schauspiel Köln in Germany and Das Ehemalige Haus at the Salzburger Festspiele in Austria. In 2012-2013 she worked as an actress for The Akureyri Theater Company. She then moved to New York to pursue her studies at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where she graduated as a writer and director with an M.F.A. in filmmaking in 2018.
Anna made her debut on the professional stage at the age of sixteen with The Akureyri Theater Company and has since worked as an actress both in film and theater. She was the lead actress in the film Frost (2012) directed by Reynir Lyngdal and was one of the leads in the film I Remember You (2017) directed by Oskar Thor Axelsson. TV appearances include Fólkið í blokkinni (2013), The Valhalla Murders (2019-2020) and Eurogarðurinn (2020). She will also appear in the Black Sands, TV-series directed by Baldvin Z, that will premiere in the fall 2021.
For her role in the film Frost Anna was nominated for the Edda Award in the category best actress in a leading role. She was also nominated for the Best New Nordic Voice Awards at the Nordic Panorama Film Festival for her short film I Can’t Be Seen Like This.
Anna is currently working on her first feature screenplay and developing a 10 episode TV-series.
