Sólveig Gudmundsdottir, born in 1977, is an independent working actress, writer and theatre practitioner. She studied drama at the Arts Educational School of Acting in London and graduated in 2002. Since then she has worked both in theatre and film/TV. Solveig runs her own Theatre company – GARPUR which focuses mainly on new Icelandic plays, she has worked freelance for many independent companies as well as for the National Theatre of Iceland and the Reykjavik City Theatre.
Solveig won the Icelandic theatre awards GRIMAN for best actress in a leading role both in 2017 for Soley Ros and 2019 for her role in Rejunion, as well as the Critics Choice Awards in 2017 for her roles in Soley Ros and EVIL.
She is a part of the team of creators of the award winning children’s show Life a MudPie that won two GRIMA awards in 2015; Best Children’s show and Most innovative theatre production. LIFE has toured all around the world. Solveig is also a part of the writers team for theatre and film that won the Edda TV and film awards for best drama 2019 for Manners where Solveig played the female lead.
